War contaminates the conditions for life itself
Modern warfare is an environmental catastrophe with "toxic legacies" that persist for decades. Beyond the immediate human toll, conflict destroys the essential systems for life such as water networks, sanitation, and farmland, leaving behind contaminated soil and unsafe water that render habitats nearly uninhabitable.
The environmental impacts of the war on Iran and Lebanon illustrate again that war does not only kill people and destroy homes. It also damages the systems that make life possible. Water, climate, biodiversity are all harmed.
