I am generally not a catastrophist, though I have embraced climate catastrophist positions on occasion. Catastrophe or not, 3 degrees feels like a lot; growing up in Delhi, I can say that playing cricket in 37 degree weather is a lot different from playing it in 40 degree weather.

Nevertheless, this article has good arguments that need to be taken seriously on their merits. It also makes me think that the Climate Leviathan - if any - will not be the US, but China, but equally likely, there will never be a Climate Leviathan -

• Climate change will arguably remain a special interest for certain constituencies rather than a universal concern, and in fact,

• The energy systems transformation underway might be better motivated on energy security terms than for decarbonization alone.
